For the final victory one player must either checkmate their opposition in chess or complete a knockout in the boxing ring.  ORIGINS OF THIS WEIRD SPORT : This game has spiritual roots in a scientific fictional graphic novel from 1992 called Froid Equateur, but it was made a reality by Dutch artist Iepe Rubinghin 2003. This game was later introduced to London by Tom Woolgar who was a part of a match in Germany.  Since then Chess Boxin...

Competitive Eating: What's it all about?

Image
Getting to know this weird sport: Competitive eating or speed eating is exactly what the title suggests, competitively eating large amounts of food under timed conditions. But this sport continues to be a puzzle to the rest of us who do not competitively eat. Various swallowing techniques such as “chipmunking” allows food to pass through much more easily. Yes, the thought of this may make people uneasy. However competitive eaters have to learn the inner workings of their oesophagus and muscles to be a competitive eating champion.  This sport initially evolved from pie-eating contests at county fairs but then evolved to a sport that generates enormous media attention due to Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held on July 4th every year since 1916. This triggered immense attention and went beyond just pies to eating hot dogs, cakes, burgers and pizzas. The Rules: The rules are quite simple and are constantly regulated around safety standards: Eaters ...

The Basics: Underwater hockey is a non-contact sport, which is already quite different to its land-based counterpart, it consists of two teams attempting to manoeuvre a puck along the bottom of the floor of a swimming pool into the opponents' goal. The Puck weighs in at 1.5kg and is made of lead-coated in a plastic covering. The weight of the puck means that it will naturally gravitate to the bottom of the pool however during passes the puck can be lifted off the bottom of the pool.  The Rules: So then, what is Underwater Hockey and how does that even work? Elephant Polo: What is it? How did it happen, and how is it different?

Elephant Polo is a variant of the sport polo with its main gimmick being that the players ride an elephant during the sport instead of horses. The British created this sport by substituting the standard horse with the more available elephant. The modern state of the game started in 1982 where the WEPA (World Elephant Polo Association) set the rules for the sport and started an annual competition. However, out of the four countries that host the sport only Nepal and Thailand follow WEPA regulation, with those played in India and Sri Lank being under independent tournament regulation. There are two interesting differences of the sport compared to the original . The differences under WEPA is that the field is 150 meters shorter and about 100 meters thinner than the normal polo field, this was changed because of the elephant speed compared to horses. The time length of the game is also changed, in elephants it has a total of  35 minutes, ten minutes of sport followed by an interval for...
