ORIGINS OF THIS WEIRD SPORT: This game has spiritual roots in a scientific fictional graphic novel from 1992 called Froid Equateur, but it was made a reality by Dutch artist Iepe Rubinghin 2003. The graphic novel portrayed a chess boxing world championship, where in which the opponents would participate in an entire boxing match before going up against each other in chess. For a more practical approach, Rubingh developed the game for it to be played within alternating rounds with a set of rules and regulations.
This game was later introduced to London by Tom Woolgar who was a part of a match in Germany.
Since then Chess Boxing has gone global with countries such as England, Germany, Netherlands,
France, Russian and Japan all embracing this weird sport.
