Chess Boxing: What is it?, Origins, and Rules - Aarya Hattangdi

CHESS BOXING
WHAT IS THIS WEIRD SPORT? : Chess Boxing is the ultimate game where intelligence,
patience and muscle are all tested where players quickly switch between a boxing ring and
a chessboard. For the final victory one player must either checkmate their opposition in
chess or complete a knockout in the boxing ring.

ORIGINS OF THIS WEIRD SPORT: This game has spiritual roots in a scientific fictional graphic novel from 1992 called Froid Equateur, but it was made a reality by Dutch artist Iepe Rubinghin 2003. The graphic novel portrayed a chess boxing world championship, where in which the opponents would participate in an entire boxing match before going up against each other in chess. For a more practical approach, Rubingh developed the game for it to be played within alternating rounds with a set of rules and regulations.

Chessboxing: the new craze where brain meets brawn

This game was later introduced to London by Tom Woolgar who was a part of a match in Germany.
Since then Chess Boxing has gone global with countries such as England, Germany, Netherlands,
France, Russian and Japan all embracing this weird sport.

RULES OF THIS SPORT:
Players must not purposely waste time when playing chess, if done so a 10 second penalty will be
withheld.
Participants must be skilled in both chess and boxing, not just one discipline.
6 rounds of chess and 5 rounds of boxing will be completed unless the contest already announces
a winner from the previous round.
